One of my favorite parts of having a Lebanese husband is the amazing food that comes with it, HAHA!
I am going to show you how to make labneh (also known as Greek Yogurt) in this post, enjoy!!
We went to the International Market today and got some lovely goodies, a few of which include hummus, pita bread, shwarma seasoning, pitted dates, and labneh.
After we got home we were talking about how much we missed my mother-in-law’s homemade labneh since we are not in the same state anymore. We got to talking and decided to give it a try ourselves, with her directions.
My mother-in-law makes her yogurt from scratch, but we used plain yogurt from the local grocery store :)
First, here are the materials/ingredients you will need:
I used a 6 inch strainer like this one, you can purchase below :)
First, place the strainer over a bowl and put the coffee filter inside.
Next, fill up the coffee filter with yogurt. Cover the yogurt with saran wrap and put it in the fridge.
Check on it every hour to every few hours to drain the liquid that will drain into the bowl. It is ready once it has the consistency you are looking for. Mine was in the fridge for about 12 hours and it drained out a total of 1 cup!
Very gently flip the strainer upside down onto a plate or bowl. The coffee filter should be on top and should just slide off if you take it off slowly.
You can serve this by adding olive oil and sprinkling mint on top. It is delicious with pita bread, olives, cucumbers, tomatoes, and radishes.
You could also use as a healthy cream cheese substitute or a pita wrap spread when making a sandwich, gyro, or shawarma! Yum, Yum!
If you make this using this tutorial, please leave me a comment and let me know how it went. If you have another method, please share! :)
